Scale War vs. Battle Robots

For years now, robotic battle has meant that a pair of “robots” (essentially just metal boxes), with primitive weapons (hammers & saws), would get put into a small arena and then beat each other to death. Teams would spend months, travel hundreds of miles and spend thousands of dollars building their robot. Only to have it destroyed in a few seconds! A huge expense, a lot of effort and sometimes a very devastatingly quick defeat.

We offer an alternative, true tactical robotic warfare we call “Scale War.” Here’s why we think it’s going to be a better:

* Battle robots are regularly damaged or destroyed at every event. A participant usually spends many months to build and thousands of dollars on fabrication and components. But then within the first few seconds of a competition, their robot can (and usually is) destroyed or badly damaged. Very expensive and cost prohibitive for many participants.
Scale War vehicles are NOT damaged under normal war scenarios. Other than damage done by natural terrain, actual battle should do NO damage to a competitors’ vehicle. Much less expensive for entry-level and professional competitors alike.

* Battle robots competitions held in small Plexiglas “arenas”. Not a real simulation of combat or war scenarios.
Scale War competitions will be held on real outdoor “battlefields” with real terrain and in real environments. From desert, to woodlands, to plains, to urban terrain.

* Battle robots are almost all 100% custom built. This can be expensive and need highly technical builders with access to machine shop equipment. You need to know fabrication, machining and electronics.
Scale War vehicles will come in several variants. From turn-key systems, to bare platforms that can be built with common garage tools. Advanced “Combat Quad” builders can modify vehicles to any level allowed by competition rules.

* Battle robots “battles” are held between only two robots at a time. Other teams have to just watch and wait. Some teams can see as little as 2 minutes of competition in an entire weekend!
Scale War battles are held between dozens of robots at once and can last for hours. Teams can be as many as 30+ people! Everyone involved at the same time.

* Battle robots have many “weight” classes of robots, little robots cannot fight big robots & vice-versa. This limits larger competitions and where/when you can participate.
Scale War games are much more like real warfare. We have ideas for scenarios where small vehicles can fight bigger vehicles! Opportunities for many people to get involved.

* Battle robots competitions held in expensive “custom” arenas that have to be built for every event, limiting venues and competition opportunities. “Traps” have to be added to many competitions, to make them “more exciting.”
Scale War can be held on any outdoor terrain, such as: open lots, paintball arenas, fields, parks, etc. natural terrain presents real hazards. Many more possibilities for event locations, more realistic “battlegrounds” and no need for custom facilities or arenas.

* Battle robots (in our opinion) are just plain ugly metal boxes. Most are just wedges, boxes with wheels, or some sort of spinning saw. Not much visual appeal or realism.
Scale War vehicles are almost scale replicas of real military vehicles and futuristic “Mechs”. Much more exiting to watch and drive. Videotaped battles would resemble the real thing!
